Tropical battery storage

Im leaving my boat on mooring in Tahiti for 2 months over Christmas/New years, and worried that the solar panels might over- charge the batteries in the tropical sun. Wondering if I should dis-connect one or both panels.

I'm using 2x 135 watt pannels on a digital 25 amp charge controller (blue sky 'solar boost 2000e), with 400 amp hours of gel batteries.

I intend to turn all systems off (except automatic bilge pumps) and don't need much juice. The batteries are quickly full (14 volts) in the tropical sun. My worry is if the charge controller fails, I might cook my batteries, or worse...

Any ideas?

Re: Tropical battery storage

Gel batteries (or for that matter, any batteries in decent shape and with no phantom loads) should be fine just sitting on their own for two months, but I carry around a very small solar panel I hook up for battery maintenance when I'm leaving the boat for a long time. Remember, batteries often sit on the shelf in the store for a lot longer than that.

What are the odds of the controller going south?

Re: Tropical battery storage

Yeah, I guess that is the question: With a full solar input coming into the controller, with nowhere to go, does that increase the odds of the controller failing?
