Yes you are correct you do need the flexnet DC, also a hub connecting cables and shunts. The whole lot does start to add up in cost, but the mate does act as battery monitor.

OK, now it makes sense. I've been sitting here looking at an MX charger and Mate II and scratching my head.

Holy smokes. Isn't solar supposed to be simple and easy. Aren't the controllers meant to do just that...contol the current to the batteries? Why would you need to adjust or change anything?
