suggestion on position of generator aboard

Hi there,

We are planning a 2yr trip and doing a nice refit on our Beneteau 50 (1998).

A generator is one of the must-have's.

Does anyone know by seeing it or having installed it or just knowing what the appropriate place for the generator on this ship would be?

We have seen one in Sweden that had it underneath the bench in the saloon but I hope there is a better way to do so.

thx

Paul

Do you mean a portable generator? How about a platform on the stern built onto the pulpit rail permanently mounted? If your bene has those little seats built into the corners of the Stern pulput... you're almost done!

WELCOME to the board, pleasure to have you among us. Be prepared for an interesting dialogue. I'm sure there's an opinion for everyone who reads this thread.

I would look at putting it right at the rear swim step storage compartment. I assume you have a DS model, not the CC model. Either way, mount it on some really good vibration isolation mounts and toward the rear. In one of those compartments (water tight) you can easily create some outboard ports for exhaust and venting which would remain watertight while not in use. Also, out of sight, out of mind. Hanging on the back would certainly invite an unwelcome user who wouldn't bring it back. LoL

If you choose to put it inside, just to the side of the entryway yu may have room like this...

thx

Both Cheechako and cdennyb, thanks for your reply.
I am indeed considering a non-mobile one like Mastervolt Whisper or simular.

The picture that cdenny b has included matches the Swedish yacht I saw last year.

I will have a look on the suggestion to put it somewere at the rear although I am not sure that I understand the suggestion.

Question: what is the brand/type of the generator shown in your added picture that shows the generator inside?

Underneath two pictures of the stern. cdennyb, do you mean the compartment on the port side that can be opened from the outside? Or the starboard side behind the swim step and inside?

If there was room enuf I was thinking of the area between the sides, right in the center. I know on some newer boats that area is considerable large after opening the lid. The lower step would not be very good in my opinion, too close to water.
