Re: Starter for port 350hp Crusader 454

If it's a "marine" starter, your way better off having it overhauled.
Being a car mechanic you know to look for an automotive electric shop that overhauls alternators and starters, local one here will do it while I wait, or worst case while I eat lunch.

I had a 36 Sportfisher with those engines, actually they are tough motors but watch out for the exhaust manifolds. I never could get over that backward turning motor, just seemed "wrong"

Not quite the uneventful trip I wished upon you, is it? You're just getting the bugs worked out.

Here's a bump, hopefully someone familiar with Deltaville will see your thread soon.

If it is the electrics that are "burned up" as you mentioned why not get an automotive starter and swap the electrics.
Starter motors are relatively simple mechanically so this should not present too much of a challenge.

Re: Starter for port 350hp Crusader 454

Thanks Fiveslide, one day at a time, as far as being rebuilt or rebuilding myself that would be fine if it was the solenoid or such but it had fried the armature so that was something that you can't pick up off the shelf to easily at the local parts store and a standard automotive starter for a big block Chevy was not the same. I did manage to find one actually at another marina in the same cove I was in, it just ended up costing about $125 more than ones I had found online, guess that's the price you pay for availability. Thank you once again to everyone for the advice and I will be of assistance to anyone I can once I'm able to look up from all the problems I keep incurring.

I agree, get it rebuilt. These starters are spark-proof.

Notice the green pickle flat bottom in the first pic is missing in the second, that was when I was out of fuel off East Point before Mathews arrival.

Hey, she's a looker. And some top tier extras like t-top and radar.

I have to admit, the green pickle would be alot of fun, too. Just being on the water.

Have a safe one.
