Solar Ground

Installing 2-175 panels and was wondering if I should run the ground from the controller to the batteries or to the shunt on my Balmar SG200?

Re: Solar Ground

If the panels produce more 48 volts then you should run a ground to the charge controller from the panel frame if the charge controller has a grounding nut and then run that to the ground on the boat.

If there is no grounding nut on the controller than you should still run a ground from the frame to the boat ground.

Re: Solar Ground

The neg must go to the load side of the shunt.

Re: Solar Ground

Indeed, nothing between the battery and the shunt. Current coming from the PV panels will be monitored as negative load and the SoC will reflect it.
