Simple Inverter Install with BMS

I'm installing an inverter (not an inverter/charger) and a Victron BMV-702 battery monitor; I have no AC system, no bonding system. Should I connect the chassis ground from the inverter to the load side of the shunt or somewhere on the "other side" of the shunt (e.g., battery negative or grounding point on the diesel engine)?
Thanks!
