shunt bachwards ???

hello,
what does it mean to install a shunt „backwards‘ ?
I want to install a wakespeed alternator controller. does ‚backwards‘ mean the shunt is connected to negative ?
regards

Re: shunt bachwards ???

The shunt measures voltage drop. One side needs to be connected to the battery, the other to the negative distribution. If these terminals are reversed then the battery side would be incorrectly connected to negative distribution. If this is the case, the shunt is installed “backwards”.

If this was done then current flow into the battery would be reported as a discharge and a discharge from the battery would be reported as positive charge.

On some equipment the software can “reverse” the shunt, but most need to be connected in the correct orientation.

To continue noelex_77 excellent answer; Wakespeed added this feature to the software so that, if the shunt if the installer inadvertently installed the shunt wrong way around,, the operator corrects the mistake by simply selecting the highlight slide button and all is right with the world.
