I was amazed at how small the safety margins are for wire size and connector ratings for electrical installations. I would never intentionally overload a wire or connector -- really asking for trouble.

I feel your pain, but 120 volt power requires fat cables -- a real PITA, I know. But considerably less PITA than a fire . . .

Some marinas require that one uses the the marine cable set. That way it keeps the wiring to specs. If one were to throw in a home made unit, it may cross up the system, feeding power to the common or ground.

I believe he's talking using 8 gage. I would not call the 30 amp shore power cord heavy duty myself.... I've burned up too many!
