Second 12V circuit…. Is this heresy?

The admiral wants a nice looking, flush mounted iPhone / iPad changer set into the cabinet by her berth.

The leisure battery bank is under that berth….

Yes, I could run a new circuit from the main board.

Is there an acceptable solution which starts and ends within her cabin? Switched & fused obviously.

Feels a bit of a cowboy solution, but there’s no harm in asking :-)

Your boat, your choice. Maybe not usual but if electrically safe then why not. The only downside is the circuit won't be deactivated by any leisure battery master switch (if fitted).

Me, I wouldn't do it but that is no reason for you not to.

Can't you just add an extra electrical wire before a cabin light switch or socket?

Re: Second 12V circuit…. Is this heresy?

Do you have any other circuits running back from the main board in that area (e.g. lighting)? Not ideal but you could tap into one of those and then at least you get protection/isolation. There's nothing stopping you from running a circuit direct from the battery. Not very neat but no need to don that cowboy hat. You WILL need an inline fuse of suitable current and an isolator switch somewhere accessible. You also need to ensure the cables are of sufficient gauge.

I have used these which work very well and come with a 10A inline fuse.

Good luck
