Maybe a compressed air wrench applied directly to the engin drive shaft, start that and use it to charge the batteries. The wrench would need a clutch to save your hand when it starts or maybe an air vane starter:

What a thread....start motor, burn diesel...charge batteries. Or hook up solar ...do all the above.

There was a guy once who lost his battery and started his diesel by hoisting an anchor up the rig though a block with the tail wrapped around part of the motor. I believe he drained his oil and heated it and refilled. He also filled the cylinders with propane. I believe he only fired one or two cylinders first.
Also some folks have converted IC engines to steam/air engines. If you could do this on one cylinder only the scuba tank probably has enough power to start most sailboat sized diesels.
