This thing was doused with
salt water a few times during various seawater
cooling system failures, and also overheated a lot in the days before I realized that the amp ratings on
marine alternators are meaningless. But it was still producing full output when I took it off, and will now become a backup after I
rebuild. Other than new bearings, which I already have, what else can be done?
Is there such thing as a spray that will take
corrosion off of copper, similar to Ospho for
stainless steel?
Anyone know a good source for
alternator parts or a good shop who could
rebuild? I wouldn't mind doing the
work but finding some of the components seems time consuming judging by how long it took me to figure out the bearings. It turns out that using normal bearing sizes would be too easy, the whole starter/alternator industry has their own sizes, not available from normal industrial sources.
