Rule Auto-Off-Manual Switch, how does it work with self contained pump

The auto function setting on the Rule bilge switch no longer works with the rule 750 bilge pump with built in float valve. Switch in auto worked fine till the delivery from hell. Don't know when it quit but a breaking wave over the quarter that soaked the cabin didn't help.

Now it doesn't switch pump on when water level rises above the 750 pump when in 'auto'. Installed a new pump thinking it was a bad switch on the pump but it still doesn't work. When switched to 'auto' there is no voltage at the panel to the Brown 'auto' wire to the pump with the old switch. Tried a generic on-off-on switch but the pump still won't work even with 12v on the brown 'auto' wire to the pump. 'Manual' works fine with 12v to the brown and white pump manual wire. Local chandlery didn't have the Rule 'auto-off-manual' switch so will have to drive 30 miles to West Marine to get one.

What voltage should I have at the Rule auto-off-manual switch poles??? Does the rule switch have some kind of sensor on the 'auto' pole that works in conjunction with the float switch on the pump to make the 'function' work. Otherwise do you have to use a rule switch for the 'auto' function to get the Rule pump to work on 'auto'. Do I have two pumps with bad 'auto' function???

You don't need a special bilge switch. You just want an (on) off on. Switch.

You need 12v to the auto wire at the pump. All the time. Right at the pump. I would take it direct from the battery (fused) so it can't be turned off by mistake. Having a switch is an option.

Obviously if you have the old float it needs to be removed

From a switch you need switched 12v power to the manual wire at the pump. When switch is on. Pump gets power...

Re: Rule Auto-Off-Manual Switch, how does it work with self contained pump

Thanks for your help. The Rule switch 'auto' pole was bad and the 'auto' wire from the switch had fatigued at a hidden soldered connection in the bilge and broken probably because of the beating we took the first day. Ran a new wire from the panel and installed an on-off-on switch in place of the rule switch and all is right with the bilge pump. Was in a bit of a panic as we're leaving the boat for 3 months and didn't want to leave it without a functioning auto pump.

Sorry roverhi, there were two threads about the Rule auto switch and I mistakenly thought they had both been started by you.
