Perhaps he was referring to the older MC-612 not the newer MC-612 DUAL. The MC-614 replaced the older MC-612. They then introduced an MC-612 DUAL to drive two alts on the same engine. If he has one alt all he needs in the MC-614.
The MC-614 can still drive 15A to the field same as a MC-612 DUAL but it lacks the second field output and second alt temp
sensor.
The older MC-612 I don't
recall if it could drive 15A to the field. Other than some slight programing changes the older MC-612 and the
current MC-614 are pretty similar. IIRC the MC-612 was discontinued back in 2009 or 2010... I do like the way the MC-614 programs compared to the old MC-612 but perhaps that is just because I am more used to them now and I have not installed a 612 in a while..
So between the older MC-612 and newer 614 not much difference at all. Between the MC-612 DUAL and the MC-614 one is for two alts on one engine the other is for one alt but it really does have the guts to drive two if needed..
