Problem with Victron dc to dc 50 amp

I have a Beta 50hp 600 hrs
Alt is Beta supplied 120 amps internally reg.
600 ah Lithium
900 ca lead starter battery
Alt goes starter then Blue seas 2 circuit on off with combine function.
Good wiring with fuses each side of Victron 50 amp dc dc.
Victron is wired back to switch and lithiums
What is happening is that the alt is charging at 13.4v but when the dc turns on the input voltage drops down to 9 v and the dc turns off.
When I combined the batteries the alt charges at 60 amps at 13.1v
Start battery resting voltage 12.4v
Everything worked fine the first time I tested
But later that day this occurred.
Any suggestions?
Regards

You have a problem with your starter battery, its resting voltage should be around 12.7v

Re: Problem with Victron dc to dc 50 amp

I have just checked the start battery voltage and it is 12.7 after 24 hours.
I will do a battery capacity check in a few days.
When running if I defeat the engine start function on the Victron alt voltage drops to 9v or below.
Does a start battery that is not at full capacity cause the alt voltage to drop when the Victron kicks in?
Regards

Re: Problem with Victron dc to dc 50 amp

you need to compare the input voltage of the orion to the start battery, alternator, and other wiring when this happens.

if the orion input is droping to 9v when it kicks in. likly the issue is the orion wiring. but the only way to know is to see if the start battery and it's wiring is holding 12v+ or dropping to 9v as well. you will have to trace out where the problem is happening.

an engine battery good enough to carnk and start an engine, is not going to instantly drop to 9v with a 50a load. so most likly the battery is not also at 9v when the orion starts.

What state of charge is the house bank when this happens? What rpms is engine doing when this happens? When you rev the engine does the DC DC start up , watch it on bluetooth V in and V out. I assume you have set it to charge function with a Li profile and a non smart alternator.

When the failure occurs, measure the voltages everywhere, starting at the output of the alternator and coninuing at every measurable point all the way to LFP final destination. If the alt is OK then the voltage drop location and hence failure mode should become evident quite quickly.

Re: Problem with Victron dc to dc 50 amp

The problem went away after the second day of charging with the combined function. It charges fine now.
The start battery is at 55% of capacity so that may have been the problem but it still starts and the Victron is working.
Many thanks for all your help
