Consider that the Coulomb force (force between a positive and negative electrical charge) is one of only four forces identified in all of the universe. The other three are gravitational, weak, and nuclear. The Coulomb force essentially governs our chemistry or how molecules interact with one another. It is responsible for our biochemistry. Without it we wouldn't have people. That said, how can anyone not want to be a physics major?

Yes, that's the easy part.

Now explain WHY the charges exist and what they physically are (in a sentence or two that doesn't take a book or two to understand)...
