At first glance I came to the same conclusion. But there is a slight difference: the side of the shunt the starter is attached to.

I guess the final installation is meant to measure whats going on in the aux batteries and is supposed to look like this...


(aux - ) ----- ( shunt ) ---- (neg busbar with all other - )
