Off-Grid Tech List

starting the day off with technical glitches sucks. Now i'm on the hunt for high-quality, reliable off-grid gear.

Looking for recommendations on companies that provide off-grid equipment: Solar power, Wind power, Battery backup, Water filtration, and Communications.

Prefer companies with a good reputation for warranties and solid equipment. I'm compiling a list for an upcoming sail. Sharing the results once they're compiled.

Re: Off-Grid Tech List

I live off grid both afloat and ashore, below are a few of my favorites.

Sun Electronics in Miami has a big inventory and great prices on solar. They also carry regulators, batteries, etc. And they are right there in Miami for access to freight forwarders...a real bonus when shipping bulky/heavy stuff to remote ports...esp given stiff shipping rates for such inside the USA.

Marine Beam carries high quality LED related stuff for boats.

SuperBriteLED.com has a huge inventory of all things LED from components, to power supplies, bulbs, fixtures, dimmers, you name it, but you need to know what exactly to buy much more so than w Marine Beam who only carries high quality stuff targeted at boaters. If cheap unregulated LED's fit your application then you can buy those at S.B.LED right along side the high quality self regulated bulbs. Very good web site with detailed specs for products, including lumens, color temp, and operating voltage range for bulbs (many vendors don't list this important info).
