"Nightvision" clock needed

I would like to install a 12V DC digital clock with red LED digits in the saloon / chart area. I cannot find a supplier for such a clock, does anyone have a lead or source?

Yes that would do fine. Have emailed them to see which colour the digits are dispayed in. Will post the answer and thanks for the link.

Received an reply: These clocks are manufactured by VDO and no longer available in Australia.

Did I just read somewhere that Blue is a better colour to keep your night vision?

LED displays consume more power than LCD.
To preserve night vision the most important thing is to have a very dim display and dim it as you dark adapt. I think red is still better, but go for something with a very adjustable brightness. I find the glow from an analog watch is the best way to tell time and preserve night vision while sailing.

Gord, thanks for the link. Based upon my reading of the article, it seems that the best colour for chart lights would be 'blue-green', or cyan - the author clearly states that it is to be preferred for 'fastest dark adaptation recovery'. Yes, dim white light gives better detail/clarity, but surely the key for sailors is the ability to recover quickly from the effects of light upon your night vision. Or am I (as is frequently the case) missing something?
