New solar panel and storage technology

Although this is not fully available at this time, it is an interesting approach to home solar utilization. Has great potential for boats with the mobile systems. I hope it becomes a reality. The solid state battery technology is interesting.

Re: New solar panel and storage technology

How is this unique?

There is a lot of marketing talk in the material, I failed to spot the X factor.

PLS educate me!

Re: New solar panel and storage technology

What I found to be some what new was the integrated "solid state" battery storage on the mobile panels. Not lead acid or LiPo. They don't go into much detail about their new battery technology, but claim it to be fairly safe. No fires no problem from physical abuse. Still to new to be totally believable, but it is promising.

Re: New solar panel and storage technology

I see lots of sales copy, but no technical specs, no comparison to existing options, and no price. As well as no where you can buy them.

Until proven differently I can't see this as anything but vapor ware.

And why would I want the batteries built into the solar panels? It seems like a silly idea.

Re: New solar panel and storage technology

A company named Seeo, recently acquired by Bosch, is working on solid state batteries. They have built prototypes. Still a lithium battery, but uses a solid polymer electrolyte. A 1.6 kwh battery weighs 22 pounds. They currently estimate their production costs at $400/kwh (same as Tesla), but claim scale will get the cost to $100/kwh in a couple of years. Apparently not using a liquid electrolyte improves safety. They also claim longer life and less heat production.

Sounds exciting.

I see. A 2 in 1. A panel and a battery in one package.

Nice idea. Not sure how they want to cool the panel if they place the battery behind it. May be a challenge in hot climates. Panels like open space behind them.

Re: New solar panel and storage technology

Seems like a built in inverter and no DC output (other than a USB charger) so not a good option for a boat in its current incarnation.

(To say nothing of the idea of putting all the weigh of your batteries up wherever you mount the panels.)

What a crock of you know what.... Sucker in the smart-phone generation, all of whom failed physics in high school.
