Leaching Plasticizers in Electrical Wire

As you probably know, some forms of insulation can leach out the plasticizers in the insulation around electrical wires, thus causing shorts and perhaps even fires. How do you deal with this? raceways and conduit? what about the plasticizers in them?

Avoid using PVC* (PolyVinyl Chloride) insulated wire?

* flexible PVC is achieved by adding plasticizers such as phthalates
