Re: \is there a "Magic Box"?

The victron companion Battery Balancer to the BMV-712 appears to be the magic box. Sadly it is designed to work with 12V batteries.

But wow, it's on the right track.

I think what I am discovering is that 2 panels, two SC's and two batteries are the way to go. KISS.

At 48v in series they will become unbalanced, yes the shoe power charger will tend to correct the imbalance.
It’s important to stop and think about what it means when a bms shuts off the series charge. Has nothing to do with a tap in the middle.

Sorry what specific balancing charger do you mean? Link?

Could you be more specific?

Yes with a charger at 48 volts, the mid-point tap is only (maybe) needed for the balancing between the two serial'd halves (with a balance charger) while the 48V main current is only flowing through the full-bank power leads pair.

With 2x 24V charging, the power leads' + of one and – of the other are doing all the charging and the balancing is done elsewhere, in this case by the BMS.
