If you have 30 amp shore
service "power boost" units are IMHO a significant advantage. If you are not familiar with this they
work this way. Let's say you pulled into a marina and plugged in to
shore power with low
batteries. It will normally be in the charge mode and start
charging your
batteries. Now say you have an air conditioner that you turn on. If the start
current is high the unit will reduce the amount of
current going to the batteries until the current falls to the point that there is enough
power available to run the AC unit ant the
battery charger. So now with these loads running and you want to use the microwave . If the start current is higher than 30 amps the inverter charger will use energy from the
battery to boost the current until demand falls to less than 30 amps. At that point it will go back to charging as much as it can without exceeding 30 amps from the
shore power. Really a terrific feature for my boat as without it I would have converted my boat to a 50 amp system.
