Question Integrated (IFG) / Intercalated (C.I.C.) generator - any opinions ?

A thing first introduced (or invented) by Iskra Avtoelektrika (now Letrika dd)
of Slovenia, in 2004.
It is a flat (125 mm thick) generator built-in between the engine's "bobtail"
and transmission, hence "intercalated".
Claimed to provide up to 3.5 kW energy under power, and - IMHO even
more promising - charge the batteries through shaft backwards rotation under sail.

Iskra did not get IFG's production going those days; two "world famous"
marine engine producers now do, seems to be the same unit:

STEYR IFG

NANNI C.I.C.

NANNI pricing is around EUR 3.500 ex-VAT;
STEYR replied that "we sell IFG only with our marine engines"; these IMHO are overpriced as such.

Any opinions (or, maybe, experience) ?

Unfortunately not but I would like to know more about this also. Yanmar has also an ad on called KMG65E back in 2007 but it was not a success and I don't know if they still commercialize it.

KMG65E-K3 3KW Generating system

It seems just a great idea but it is terribly expensive and if something goes wrong the repair should not be easy.

Makes a lot of sense though. Maybe Steyr, that is an expensive engine can make it work commercially. Nani and Yanmar seem to have failed.

I would say Iskra are the ones that eventually can make a less expensive one. They are a major manufacturer of inexpensive marine and auto alternators and some marine engines come equipped with their alternators as standard.

I have one on my boat and put a bigger one, They were very helpful in everything and I exchanged emails with an engineer from the factory that give me all information I needed.

If you want more information perhaps it is a good idea to talk with them about this:
