A thing first introduced (or invented) by Iskra Avtoelektrika (now Letrika dd)
of
Slovenia, in 2004.
It is a flat (125 mm thick)
generator built-in between the engine's "bobtail"
and
transmission, hence "intercalated".
Claimed to provide up to 3.5 kW energy under
power, and - IMHO even
more promising - charge the
batteries through shaft backwards rotation under sail.
Iskra did not get IFG's production going those days; two "world famous"
marine engine producers now do, seems to be the same unit:
STEYR IFG
NANNI C.I.C.
NANNI pricing is around EUR 3.500 ex-VAT;
STEYR replied that "we sell IFG only with our
marine engines"; these IMHO are overpriced as such.
Any opinions (or, maybe, experience) ?
