I would never buy a Generac generator!

A friend has a very low time Generac iX 1600 Generator. On starting the over load light comes on and it will not make power. The Inverter Module has failed. A new Inverter module cost around $670.00. A brand new Generac 6719 IX Series 2000 Portable Inverter Generator list for $566.00 on Amazon.

Need I say more?

Amazon rating is 2.3 out of 5, Yeah I'd stay away just based on that rating alone

Have to agree! Honda! You get what you pay for. I have had the Honda 2000 for about 10 years now with out a problem and it is so quite!

No it is not hearsay. I personally disassembled the generator, diagnosed the problem, and shopped the replacement parts. In addition, I personally spoke with a Generac representative and asked to confirm with a supervisor there had not been a pricing mistake. No mistake. Just a company with an absurd parts pricing strategy.

Generac reminds me of the time last summer when Volvo quoted me a price of $2,000.00Cdn for a 12 volt starter motor to go on my 18hp diesel. Theirs was just like the $86.00 starter I later sourced on the Internet.

Im very happy with my honda too!
Hardly ever use it though and its bulky and heavy at 3.2kw
But good to have as a backup and is reliable starts every time the first pull.
Wish I bought an electric start and wonder it coukd be retro fitted?

Re: I would never buy a Generac generator!

All the small "suitcase" generators are now Made in China.. But Made in China does not mean crap. Honda and Yamaha both work with quality Chinese companies and control the spec and QC proceedures closely..

In fact (as a shock to many), Yamaha has not manufactured an engine (for ANYTHING) since the late 90s. Although they provide designs and specs, all Yamaha engines have been made by Linhai corporation for years (including ATV engines).

They are a few quality chinese brands out there, but finding them can be difficult. I own a company that distributes a Chinese brand of generator that is quality. However, its designed for RV use and I would NEVER have it on my boat. Its simply not made to a spec that could survive LONG TERM use in the tropics. The screws, fasteners and wiring is just not made for that enironment, and the price reflects that. Although they are not designed for high humidity use, they easily last 5000 hours for our customers (over 10,000 is our record). The right product for the environment!

For me, I wouldn't have another suitcase brand on my boat but a Honda!
