Is it a kit by Muir? I bought that, many moons ago, found the receipt on the computer but can't find the actual control box on the boat... otherwise I would have installed it a long time ago.

The receipt says: Anchor Winch Reversing Solenoid Series Wound 12V 150A by justboating.com.au for $164.
The kit I bought was a hail-mary el-cheepo from EBay. Sold for 4wd winches. The instructions were mildly hysterical for their lack of clarity, detail or any kind of semblance to the product in the box.

But the real kicker was that I just assumed that dc motors could be reversed by reversing the polarity.

How wrong I was.

Re: Help needed interpreting a wiring diagram.

Maybe you can return it, or use it for soemthing else?
The box you want seems to be something like this for AUD 170:

https://www.biasboating.com.au/reversing-solenoid-kit

Although the page doesn't specify the max Amps it can handle. You'd need to check that first.

Not giving up hope yet. I’ve got the wiring scheme suggested up-thread to test first.

But no, not the sort of item you can return, and anyway, the remote control part of it will be very useful even if I cannot get the solenoid to work.

Re: Help needed interpreting a wiring diagram.

Well, it is official:

Jammer and Bglad are bloody legends! They got it working!

Thank you both, I now have a reversible anchor winch, and, as an added bonus, the remote control has at least a 50 meter range which will be very handy if I want to raise or lower my anchor from the shore.
