Generator auto start

I just installed a new Victron BMV-712 as the first step in my solar/lithium project. I need to know real world power usage to properly size the system. Naturally the old Xantrex monitor was mis-wired and I had to reconfigure the ground bus. The battery charger and inverter didn't go through the shunt.

On the BMV-712 there are outputs for relays, and Victron says to use Crouzet MUR3 timer relays to auto start/stop the genset. Anyone doing this? What are the downsides?
