fischer panda producing no power
Hi,
Have a fishcer panda 6000 (2003). It was working fine until it stopped producing power. We were in a cruise for a couple of the and the second to last morning while we were having breakfast the generator stopped producing power, the engine continued to run.. At the moment it happened we had two air conditioners (15k and 9k btu), battery charger and microwave 800W. we have load the generator with this loads and didn't had any problem. We shut down the gen and turn it on again but still no power. I am not sure on the generator hrs but it should be around 2,500hrs.
Any clues what this could be? What should I check first?
Regards,
Alfredo

Re: fischer panda producing no power
Is there an AC circuit breaker on the generator?

Not that I am aware of. I do have the panel breaker for the 110v. but the breaker did not tripped.

No book?
Sounds like a blown circuit breaker or maybe a fuse.

Yeah, pretty sure there is a breaker on the generator, it may look like a little red button, if you find a red button, push hard on it and see if it goes in some and you hear a click, this button may have a number on it like maybe a 30.
If not red button, take your trusty multimeter and see if there is power coming out of the generator.
If not and assuming it's a capacitor regulated generator I'd take my spare capacitor and try it, real easy to change. If not that, then I'm out of ideas.

ok, will check that. I browse over the manual in my cell phone but did not found anything. It did mentioned about the capacitors but to test them you have to discharge them and I prefer to do that with a electrician or a mechanic.
will keep you posted.
thanks,
alfredo

Re: fischer panda producing no power
you definitely should have an output breaker coming off the gen. either on the gen by the gen maker or near it by the boat maker. weather you do or not is another question

Alfredo--
On the FP there is usually a breaker adjacent to or reasonably close to the control box. Note too that the control box should be mounted vertically, such that the capacitors are vertical, not horizontal. If horizontal, the oil in the capacitors can leak out of the tiny vent hole at the "top" and, absent oil, they're ruined. We discovered this after having a problem and learning that the "electrician" that installed ours did not follow the makers instructions and mounted the box improperly. Replacement capacitors are not inexpensive and doing the install properly really didn't take much more effort than doing it wrong.
FWIW...

Re: fischer panda producing no power
If not a breaker a thermal overload. Sounds as if you are working the unit to death.

Re: fischer panda producing no power
Continuous load must be 60% of max capacity.
Follow the output cords from the front panel with meter...
It costs less than 40eur/h

Re: fischer panda producing no power
if the ac light does not light on the remote panel, it may still be producing some voltage, just not enough, suspect the capacitors. if the hz cycles are incorrect suspect the diesels rpm. If there is zero volts produced, suspect the low voltage from the genset to the capacitors.

On a fisher panda......pulease.
I'm in either the find the circuit breaker camp, or check the 4-6 capacitors that regulate the power.
Of all of these little gems I've worked on, only once have I found a burnt winding on the stator.
