External Regulator

just wondering what the best way to charge my batteries while motoring. i have a little 1gm10 with a 40 amp alternator was thinking of perhaps puttin gin an external regualtor is this worthwhile and if so does anyone have any recommendations. thanks all

Most any auto electric shop that actually rebuilds things can convert an internal regulated alternator to external. I had one done while I waited and watched once, it cost me $15. You might not be so lucky! You may want to just pick up a Motorola 60 amp or so instead. In the lower outputs like that they can go pretty cheap. You need to know what case will fit your brackets etc. A good simple 3 step regulator will do wonders for your charging rate. I personally like the older Ample Power units.
