For what it's worth, my inverter says NOT to run water heaters off it. Mine is wired in a way that it would if I shut the breaker.

Many people are unreasonably scared of big invertor loads. There is a very interesting book that can be downloaded from the Victron Site.http://www.victronenergy.com/upload/...yUnlimited.pdf
where it covers cooking etc by invertor.

Based on my figures, my water heater takes about 30 minutes to bring the calorifier up to temp. This is based on a reasonable ambient temp. Its 1000watt and this is 90 amps, but only 45 amp hours. with a 800amp/h bank, this is well within its capability, as would 90 A/h. The main issue is to have recharging systems sized to recharge that energy lost, otherwise repalcing it will take foreever.

Do it, it works.
