Does Honda petrol generators worth the extra $$$

Looking into buying the Honda eu22 which cost around 1100euro's but seeing all those Hyundai's/Konner n Sonhen/Einhel and other sticker brands for less than half that price....

Is the Honda worth the extra $$$ in the long run?
They are all pure sine inverter type with similar output

Re: Does Honda petrol generators worth the extra $$$

I have a home Honda generator with 27 years of use. That amounts to probably at least 2000 or more hours total. Starts right up, flawless. When we need it, it gets run 16 hours a day non-stop for several days in a row.

I have a Honda eu2200i for the boat I hope it is just as good.

I had a Honda eu2200. It ran great, but I had t replace the pull cord every 4-6 months and the bolts all rusted up (I replaced with SS)

I would think my now that others had caught up in the last 15+ years and that Hinda is coasting on rep. If you find a less expensive different one with good reviews it should definitely be considered. OTOH the price savings in the big picture is kind of low depending on your planned use (Mine pretty much replaced my diesel generator)

I have used the smallest model.

It was very good. Smooth and quiet. It was a very old unit, likely +1000 hours in operation.

I liked : very quiet, no smell.

I would buy one.

Re: Does Honda petrol generators worth the extra $$$

Yes. I've owned three and all have been excellent. EU2000i, EU2200i and EU1000i.

As far as the pull cord, make sure when you pull it you are pulling from a low enough angle that the cord doesn't rub.

The rubber feet do wear out eventually. We sold ours for $800 used before downsizing to the EU1000i.

For the past 30 + years I’ve owned:a Honda’s EX 1000( still own), EU 2000(sold), EU 2200(for the a boat) and a EU 7000( propane converted for home use). Though a bit more expensive..cant beat the quality, reliability and quiet👌

I've owned Honda and others.

For occasional use, the others are fine. If it needs to run every time and last, get the Honda.

What he said.

Whatever you buy take it to pieces and replace every sundry nut and bolt with SS and coat all the mechanical moving parts with Soft Seal. The marine environment kills most things pretty quickly so if you are an occasional user paying extra for something that may last 20 years under land conditions is a false economy.

Re: Does Honda petrol generators worth the extra $$$

Seconding all the pro-Honda comments. I’m driving my fourth Honda Odyssey (the previous three I drove to over 300k miles before selling and getting a new one) and we use an EU2200CI on our boat primarily to run heat and A/C when needed. It’s worth the extra $$ for the quality and reliability IME/IMO.

The EU2200CI is amazingly quiet (we set it up on an ama of the boat so it is not in the cockpit). On our last trip, I was in our dinghy off the boat and I could not hear the generator running until I was 30-40 yards from the boat (downwind).

Re: Does Honda petrol generators worth the extra $$$

I have two Honda EU2000 generators, purchased in 2012, that we used in our travel trailer, then motor home, and around the farm/house. We used the Berg System, extended run 6 gallon fuel tank when needed. Just used one a few days ago for lighting while I switched out our main electrical panel in the house. Excellent generators!

Having said that, and not sure if they are available where you are, but if I were to purchase a similar generator today, it would be the Harbor Freight Predator 2000.

I've used the Predator 2000's extensively over that past 6 years or so. They cost about 1/3rd the cost of the Honda, and have features the I feel make it superior to the Honda.

Consumer Reports in the last 2 years test several Inverter, quiet generators in that size range, and the Predator 2000 tested I think two points lower than the Honda, mainly because CR didn't like the harder mounting feet (and the hard wheels of the larger Predator generators).

For us, the key to long life for ANY of these generators, is regular maintenance (oil/filter changes, air filters), and over our time of ownership, if the generator is sit for more than a week or so, empty out the gas, and run the generator till it quits. In this respect I really like the Predators, because they have fuel shut off valves, so you can run the gas out of the carburetor without having to dump out the fuel in the tank, which for Honda, requires you to physically pick up the generator and turn upside down!
Another feature I like about the Predators is you don't make a horrendous mess when draining the old oil out. There are after market oil filler/drain "tube extensions" that work okay, but the Honda is a poor design in that respect. YMMV

Re: Does Honda petrol generators worth the extra $$$

✊ I’ve just bought a Leisure 23 SL with a Honda 8 on it.
My girlfriend said “Don’t you want to run it before you pay?”
I replied “I don’t need to. It’s a Honda!”
I’ve got the smallest of the two suitcase Honda generators, too.
Two pulls, one without the ignition switch on, starts on that second pull every single time ✊

You get what you pay for!
My 3.2 kw is fuel injected and 59 lbs. Runs non stop for 5 days powering A/C etc.

You can shut the fuel off on the EU2200i. The newest EU2200i also have built in CO monitoring. Plus an app to see vitals like load, RPM and hours.

Honda EU2200i also improved the oil change process.

Put a PowerSmart, Erayak, or Predator 2K running next to a running Honda 2K and you will be less apt to ask that question.

You're paying for lower decibels on the Honda and longer duty cycles. You might break even with the half price generators replacing them twice as often, but I still doubt you'd get the ROI over time.

I've had my Honda 2K for 17 years. I have to wonder if you're going to get 8-9 years out of an Erayak or a Predator.
