Digital Duo Charge - Good/NoGood

400 ah house bateries - 12 volt starter battery. Magnum charger - Balmar 110 alternator - ARS 4 externa regulator - Digital Duo Charge. I'm on shore power. House is charging normally 13 volt on up. Start battery is not charging at all. It's at 12.1 volts. The 30 amp fuse on the output line of the Digital Duo Charge was blown. There appears to be a small brown spot on the Digital Duo Charge board. Replaced fuse. Still no charge to start battery. With shore power off and engine running there is no charge going to starter battery. Alternator was bench tested good. Shouldn't the Digital Duo Charge be sending charging volts to the start battery on shore power? Could it be the ARS 4? tia Chebba

Re: Digital Duo Charge - Good/NoGood

Your description leads me to conclude that the DuoCharge has failed. It is encapsulated so not really repairable.

13v is pretty low for charging. The dup doesn't share a charge till 13.2v

Does the Duo know the actual SOC? I asssumed it was using the volt dial reading for the SOC. That isn't the SOC while under charge, it's the charge rate. Correct? If the charger knows actual SOC why doesn't it share that info with us? Isn't 13.2 volts 100% full battery? So the Duo only shares charge when the house battery is at 100%?

Re: Digital Duo Charge - Good/NoGood

The digital duo charge does know the state of charge and will send charge to the start battery when it senses the house bank above 13.1V. The House bank could be pretty empty and show a charging voltage of well above 13.1. Bulk charge voltages are normally in the 14.2V range for AGM batteries.

The unit is designed to share charging when the house bank is not in a very low state of charge and is being actively charged. In that case the house bank will be above 13,2v (or so).
