Difference between old and new Duogen

I plan to buy a combined water- and windgenerator and found two used Duogen: one from the first generation and one from the second. It’s the third they produce now. Anyone who knows the difference between the oldest and the newest? I suppose they produce more, but how much more?

Anyone who had compared the output with the manifacturers numbers? Some say hydrogenerators don’t produce much on slow boats. I consider a hydrogenerator a good supplement to solarpanels for my heavy displacement boat if the specifications are correct.

Re: Difference between old and new Duogen

! have the Duogen 2 and it lives up to the published data. In wind mode we have twice blown the 35 amp fuse!

Each new model is just an improvement on the basic castings and mouldings after some manufacturing problems. Go for the Duogen 2 and upgrade some of the components like the new carbon fibre shaft - the glass fibre one delaminated. Get new wind and water bearings. The old swivel mount pin often broke the mounting casing - now it looks like that has been reinforced. The company have been very helpful and have replaced some of these components for me free of charge.

Good luck.

Re: Difference between old and new Duogen

I have had a Mark 1 since 2004, well it is really now a Mark 1¾’s now with all the new bits on it (the latest bearings, the Carbon Fibre drive shaft to name but 2 new bits)

The Pre and Post sales service and advice from Electic Energy UK is beyond excellent.

As Sailinglegend says the later models are improvements on the first one, learnt by experience and sea miles, but not all the latest parts will fit the Mark 1, for example the Mark 3 alternator will not fit the Mark 1.

It performs to the published specs, realistically in water mode we find it is not a great help below 3–4 knots but above that excellent, it runs the boat.

In wind mode it is efficient and QUIET
