Re: DC charging challenge?

Nowadays it's really difficult to find a decent cigarette lighter port. You know why if you know where they';re made. I have one in my Pearson that I'm always messing with.

Re: DC charging challenge?

Blue Sea has a great two USB ports outlet that can replace the cigarette outlet. I did that and I am very pleased.

Re: DC charging challenge?

I had a problem with the cigar lighter in my car just two days ago -it blew a fuse.
But we are not alone with these sockets as evidenced by the number of video clips on the subject.

Re: DC charging challenge?

Watch out for cheap USB ports from Ali... some of theme create alot of RF noise. I installed one near a radio and every time I plugged something into it my radio reception disappeared completely. Get a good quality one AND use ferrites.

Its bad design to wire items like this directly to the battery. The only thing(s) that should be wired directly to your house bank (and bypassing the main panel) are your bilge pumps and VHF radio. And of course your charging sources all still fused...

Re: DC charging challenge?

I have been testing this extensively. Here is what works:

This outlet: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001U4ZZPK

With this charger: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RHSD9WM

For USB C fast charging, you need to connect this to 24V.

Also, for testing, diagnosing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JYVPLLJ

I know there are outlets that look just the same for a fraction of the price. I bought those and as much as I wanted them to work, they had to be tossed.

The above works and has the 30W 15V and 20V output modes that are used by new phones, laptop's etc.
