The cheapest methanol I could find cost $65 for 5gal or 95l. So it will cost $6.80 to refill the 10l cartridge.
Umm... 65$ per 5 gallons is 13$ gallon which is about $ 3.44 per liter, so the 10 L fillup will cost ~34$, not 6.80 (assuming US gallons)

I think your math got awry there, Waterman.

You are right, somehow I forgot the refill takes 10l, and I used 2l as the refill. More coffee!

I thought that my number seemed a bit ridiculous anyway, compared to the cost of a new cartridge.

And after reading other posts about the degradation of EFOY efficiency over time, it's use longterm seems completely impractical.
And if you are thinking "green", then methanol production is not that much better, if at all, compared to soy diesel, etc. I was looking online to get some numbers, but there are many different ways of producing methanol and the environmental impacts are very unclear.

Re: Could someone check my math please?

Most methanol is produced by steam reforming natural gas. It is a lot greener used in a fuel cell compared to diesel in an ICE but that has more to do with the inefficiencies of ICE’s than carbon contents of the fuels
