Control Panel issue on a Marine AIRRRRR - A/C unit W

Have any of you experienced similar issues on your A/C unit
Sleep aboard at times in Fl (no way will I stay aboard during
summer with no a/c )
Unit is a Marine AIRRRRRRR = Passport Model
160000 BTU
Built 1997
Freezing coils is indication Freon level low , Had it checked its OK

Unit is 23 years old ,
costly techs, repairs, throwing parts on the blind too save ??
Makes no sense , Time too replace but unit is working ,
Blowing cold air , but freezing after a few hours ,

Now a new issue , control panel reading wrong cabin temp
Turning on unit , digital red lights read 000 ,
Compressor kicks on ,
PU pump working, water running thru unit out boat
Digital red lights read 145 as if that's the cabin temp
Never dropping lower then 135.
Cabin is 75 degrees , so unit is working
Not able too program , Nothing happening
Removed cable from back of panel , tricking unit , for a short
while read correct cabin temp then jumped too 145

After an hour or longer a sheet of ice forming on coils .

Doing research for parts Dometric owns Marine Airrrrrr plus
other brands . Older units parts hard too come by
Retro kits available , costly

Control panel gets the info from the mother board ,
If mother board is sending wrong info ? Or is it the other way ?
Control unit gives info the mother board ?
unit is running all the time, defrost cycle never kicks in.

Brand new self contained Dometric 16 thousand BTU with heat
in the box, delivered $ 1700 . Straight forward install ,

Just curious , anybody experience the same ??

Unit is possible a Vector Compact, with Passport or Passport II controls.

If refrigerant is OK... sometimes fan speeds (too low) can cause or exacerbate freezing. Or maybe the reversing valve isn't working (give it a tap).

OTOH, you've probably gotten your money's worth.

OTOOH, I've got a couple take-out control boards and controls, $100 each set plus shipping.

But the newer Turbo units are better anyway, assuming they'll last as long as the earlier VCs.

Easy fix....if you have an ALT air sensor that is plugged into the passport control board on the condensing unit, unplug it and see if the default internal air temp sensor that is built into the display reads correctly.
The system simply thinks the room is 140 degrees and it will keep running until it ices up.
