Compromised Electrical system? Help Please

No confusion. If you are reading 240V between the X and Y of your female socket that is on the boat side of your shore power cable and your boat panel has two busses ( a 120/240 V
System you are set to go ). You should read 120V between the W and each of the X and Y slots. Likely the shore power in the pedestal had one of the hot lines that should have been on X and Y connected to the W ( neutral ). You cannot draw full power from the reverse split
Connection, a maximum of 30amps from each leg of your AC panel. If you are looking at your boats electrical panel chances are you have a column of breakers on the left and a column of breakers on the right. What you must do is turn of non essentials on each side that draw a lot of current until you bring the amp meter down under 30A.
Sounds like you are on the correct pedestal that is giving two phases for your system.
The trouble is when yo have a single phase boat system and use the reverse splitter
That is connected to other than a single phase pedestal.

if you are trying to get 240v to the boat then it needs to read 240.

what does your boat run off of? all the 50a boats I've seen are 240v.


if you have a triple pole main breaker at your panel then it'll be 240v

apparently they make a 50a 120 plug but I have never seen one. if you have one, then a Y would be scary to use. because even if the docks are wired correctly you still have a 50/50 chance of blowing up your boat.

thank you again...yes with all your help and lots of googling I think we got this now! and yes we will test in the future before we hook up ever again! they have corrected the box and we flew in a new Y adapter splitter and after having the boat properly tested yesterday and all was good we plugged back in all all is well!!! Only the stern thruster appears to have been compromised...but the Y splitter took the hit and did what its suppose to do! so very thank flu Thank you again for helping us !!!!...as always we have learned so much with this boating adventure and thankful no harm done to anyone or thing!!
