Company in Fla, selling Battery operated A/C ? Anybody have any knowledge

My 24 year old 10000 BTU - 115 volt - Marine AIRRRRRRR with
R 22 Freon is on its way out ,

New Dometric same BTU , same Volts , same size , less then 2 thousand

Doing some research there is a distributor taking orders for
battery operated a/c units ,
7000 or 11000 BTU
They will be at the boat show">Miami boat show
Can run 7 hours off of a special battery designed for this application

Never stay on hook , A/C dockside
I pulled the non operating Kohler 5 E gas generator out of boat.
Rebuild ?
Power inverter operates everything I need.

This company sent me a quote
unit / battery for this application / charger $ 7 thousand
Can unit operate off of 30 amp then switch too battery ?
Indicated it can be done but requires intricate electrical knowledge

Does anybody have any info on this technology ?

I can purchase gen set & air conditioning and be around the
same dollars ,.

I have now become very interested in this application for my Tartan. I will be following this thread and hope to get as much information as possible.
AL B, would you please post your results when you install your new A/C system? I would very much benefit from your advice and any tips on what to do and what not to do.
Thank you, Aj Addeo

A gas Kohler is an excellent engine for a Gravely tractor of a stationary small genset. I'm not sure the rebuild would be worth it .

Not so sure about 5he claim to run off batteries, at least not for very long. for 10,000BTU usint says 3.1 amps at 230 volts. If I'm doing my math anywhere close to correctly, this is somewhere around 60 amps at 12 volts. Need a pretty heafty battery bank to do that for long, but maybe with LiFePO could pull it off. But then you have to recharge all those amps.

If you're at a dock, then no issue using shore power.

So, being at the dock, and always being able to use shore power, what is the best A/C system to install in my Tartan 37, in your opinions

I would go with a Cruisair self contained unit.
DTU sized for your application with optional compressor enclosure to make it as quiet as possible.

Two points:

These inverter tech models are variable speed, variable output capacity so instead of cycling at 60A it will run at better efficiency at lower power levels.

For noise you have to hear these to understand the difference. They are almost silent. This tech has been around for small split systems ashore, you may have heard how silent they are there.

I recently had inverter-based residential (240v) mini splits installed in a condo in Mexico. I believe they are around 18 SEER, which is medium-high efficiency (25 SEER is available). I also have 16 solar panels to run the place (grid - tie) and a fairly informative power monitoring system where I can monitor usage. Bedroom units are 12k Btu and get turned on for sleeping. They run at around 1200 watts for 10-20 mins to get the ambient temp down, then settle into a steady 350-400 watts per hour, or around 30-33 amps at 12v. In theory (and assuming my math is correct) , a single 100AH LiFePO4 batteries could run the system for a couple hours I suppose. Inverter technology is also powering many new residential refrigerators these days and is part of what has improved their efficiency by 30%-50% over just 10-years.

The above said, not sure I'm a buyer of this on a boat......yet. The residential appliance has potentially billions of global buyers which justifies vast sums invested in R&D. They also have global service stats and warranty their devices, sometimes up to 10-years. Given the size of the marine market, I'll wait a couple generations. The old reverse cycle units are fairly efficient, especially with a soft-start which allows them to be run off LiFePO4 (kind of) and often last 10 years or more in occasional use applications such as boats.

I looked at the completely enclosed golf carts being offered with AC. Not interested in the golf cart just the battery powered AC. Salesman said it worked very well and would be able to contend with the Florida temps in summer. Full size cart but compared to my boat their AC area was smaller than my cockpit.
