Christmas lights.

My wife wants some Christmas on our boat at anchorage through the season.
I just might get a few (literally a few) strands for her.
My systems are simple, 1 start battery and 1 deep cycle.

How would I go about running a few strands off of an 12 volt deep cycle that sits alone in a lazatette?

Thanks.

Re: Christmas lights.

I have searched all through the USA and I can't find solar powered outdoor Christmas lights.

I need someone to come visit me from Australia and bring some!!!

Re: Christmas lights.

I can tell you the problem with "cheap" Xmas lights is that they "drop" tiny little wire pieces on the deck, that when wet, stain the deck.

After winning some Light Parades, and then painted the deck, we've banned them from the boat.

Both Target and Wal Mart carry them in stock here in MD, but they are pricier...

Re: Christmas lights.

I'd be inclined to get some LED Christmas lights and run them off a small cheap inverter. I saw some 50 bulb LED strings at Lowes for less than six dollars. I think the 50 bulbs made a string about 12 feet long.

Re: Christmas lights.

Count the bulbs in the string. Some strings are split in the middle. Divide by 120 will give you the voltage of each bulb. Divide that into 12 for the point you splice into the single wire. ( Usually some where around 2.5 V ). Mike

Re: Christmas lights.

I went to a DIY store and bought a string of solar powered garden lights. They self charge and are weatherproof. Ive had them strung from bow, up to masthead and down to the stern for 15 months. They look great and are self sufficient.

Job done
