You can simplify your experiment by picking up a couple of 5 mf caps at any hvac supply house or grainger. They are used for fan start caps. By installing them in PARALLEL with the original, you I'll ADD the capacitance, you can add another 5 mf to the parallel circuit and it will increase the capacitance by 5 mf.
