By far the best Wind Generator I've found...

After hearing complaints from many crusiers on the durability, noise and other problems of most wind generators I found this - Forgen 1000 vertical axis wind turbine with top bearing £695

Has anyone used one or have a better suggestion?
And is there a supplier for these in the USA so I don't have to pay so much shipping?

I didn't realize that they where out of stock, but I'm glad that you did because I found it cheaper! - Forgen Wind Powered Generator
Seems to me its just asking to be mast-mounted! (if ur rig will allow it, but i'm sure a little engineering will sort it if not...)

I only looked at the price of the last link without reading it... seems some one has already had the same thought and designed mast mounts for it!
How useful!
I must have one I think!

Though not as efficient as other generators, there's definitely something to be said for its durability of design and not having to disconnect it in high winds...

You must moor in very windy places with no sun. 20 knots of wind to produce 1 amp. An 80 watt solar panel costs less and puts out 6 amps for 4-5 hours out of the day.

The 80w panel's I have seen cost about the same, could you plz post a link for ones that are cheaper (in the USA would be most useful cos of shipping costs).

I don't know anything about this company, just used them to make sure I was in the ballpark on current pricing.

I held out high hopes as well, but it seems the larger Forgen 1000 model at a steady 15knts will only produce 24 amps per day/1amp per hour. If that's true I'd agree with cal40 an extra solar panel in the array would be more cost effective. Let em build one that could make 3 amps per hour in 15knts and I'd be a customer.
Here's a comparision link

And I can't help but think of these point:-
- Wind blows when sun doesn't shine. (including night time of course)
- This doesn't need to be disconnected in high wind (some solar panels and all other wind geni's do)
- Its much quieter than other wind geni's (especially if its mounted 30' up your mast.)

I must sound like a rep for this company, I'm really not! I just want to be self surfficiant as far as power is concerned, and I have taken messures to reduce my consumption so that this and and 80w solar will cover all my needs in most circumstances... (in theory! :P)
