Burned out engine control panel gauges

We have just arrived in Antigua from Norfolk after a very slow passage with a lot of motoring (who has ever heard of SW winds in the trades). Anyway, we have had a failure of all of the gauges and gauge lights on the control panel of a Westerbeke 58. It was a sudden failure except that earlier we had a failure of the output that tells how much current is being sent to the batteries (on a separate panel). The gauges show maximum values, e.g. 4000 rpm and do not change whether engine is on or off. BTW, the engine including glow plugs on the same panel work fine. Any ideas about what has happened and what we can do about it? Thanks

Re: Burned out engine control panel gauges

Ainia,

For all the gauges to go at the same time would make me look at common connections to your panel(plugs, connectors) maye all the motoring and vibration got something loose.
Just my 2cents. Good luck

Check your negative connections at engine & panel.

Re: Burned out engine control panel gauges

It was in fact the ground connection from the panel to the engine that had broken off during the great deal of motoring we did from Norfolk to Antigua.

When many things go wrong at once,an old instructor taught me to check the "ground".
