Re: Best mains battery charger for 12 volt Deep Cycle wet lead acid batteries

Check out the Blue Sea Systems new chargers. Designed and built in the US by a company with a great reputation. I saw a prototype a couple of years ago in a dealers and the technician was raving about it.
As a result I bought the 40 amp version.

if the only reason you want a charger is to equalize then I'd say you're wasting your money. you're going to spend $400 on a decent charger and it's going to extend your battery life by what $40? save the $400 and just buy new batteries when they die.

you'd have to run the boat for 40 years to pay for itself (save $40 every 10 years) and the charger isn't going to last that long..

I am coming around to this idea, replace the batteries when I need to rather than try and drag many years life out of them, after all how much a year would I be paying for electricity if I lived on land?

So the current plan is to maybe add one more group 31 deep cycle battery if I can squeeze it in somewhere and beef up the wind and solar charging even more.

In hind sight, I think I did not look keep the battery voltage high enougn during a 6 month refit fit which ruined at least one of them

My ProMariner bit the dust this last weekend. Is Mainesail still happy with his Sterling?

I really like going with the 60A because the cost just isnt that much more than the 40A and you can always dial down the output % if needed. But truthfully, most people have a way undersized battery charger for fast/efficient battery charging from a generator, where run time matters.

I will give free shipping to any CF member on the Sterling battery chargers and no Sales Tax if shipped out of California.
