Re: Best Alternator?
Happy with Balmar 120A. Go for the serpentine kit. It is well worth it from reduced belt wear / dust. I also second for being sure you have good cooling from a working blower.

Re: Best Alternator?
I’ve had good luck with my Balmar 120 amp with a MC-614 regulator. The Balmar replaced a Hitachi 120 amp alternator that overheated. I don’t have overheat problems now with the Balmar.
Hope it helps!

Re: Best Alternator?
Funny that everyone has an opinion on the best alternator with no clue as to what engine you plan to attach it to.

Re: Best Alternator?
I don't understand why anyone would pay the prices that Balmar etc ask when there are really tough industrial alternators available in small and large frames.
I have 4 Firefly batteries that I've run down to 20% and then recharged. My All-Tek 200 amp brushless alternator happily puts out 185 amps as long as the batteries will accept it and doesn't overheat.
The Wakespeed regulator is reasonably priced and easy to use with useful features and the combination has worked well for 3 years.

Tell us more. What exactly did you order? I plan to use WS500 controller as well.

http://www.all-tek.ca/alternators.html is the company I found. I'm using
the CH-12200-SS with a Wakespeed WS-100 regulator. The WS500 wasn't available at that time.

For those in the USA. I contacted All-Tek about their products and they suggested I contact Arco Marine for help in the USA.

Weird. I don't see anything like what I bought from All-Tek and with free trade there shouldn't be any tax issues. Maybe they just don't list them all.

Re: Best Alternator?
I thought the same thing. I sent Arco Marine an email requesting information. When/If the reply I will update on this thread the info I get.

Re: Best Alternator?
There must be some oil patch suppliers in the States filling the same market.

Re: Best Alternator?
Any 24V alternator (even if you use a 24-12V converter for charging, typically with 96% efficiency) is better than most 12V units. Alternator losses depend strongly on current, so you want to have more voltage and less current. This produces less heat which allows the alternator to run at rated current longer.
