I have a dumb
boat battery dilemma. I'm currently overhauling the
electrical system of my
Cal 2-27.. also adding
solar etc. The issue involves the choice of
batteries. I've been using 1 group 27 Interstate "deep cycle"
marine battery for
engine starting and short weekend sails/electrical usage. This battery conveniently fits into the
battery box that is beside the
motor. This box is designed to hold two group 27
batteries. I've been debating whether my battery bank should consist of 2 6v Golf Cart batteries or should I just buy another 2 Group 27s that would fit beautifully into the premade
battery box. The
current group 27 will be my starting battery for either case. I know the Golf Cart batteries are probably better overall but I would have to create a new battery box to hold them in place. This battery box would likely be in the cabinet that is directly under my
propane stove top. I know that is probably not a good thing. To be fair, the premade battery box is also some what under the
stove top but the right burner never gets used (eh).
Breakdown
Option 1
2 Group 27s as house bank ~200 amp hours
They fit into existing battery box
Old Group 27 as starting (in cabinet)
Option 2
2 Golf Cart 6vs ~220 amp hours (in cabinet)
Build new box in mediocre place and acquire cuts while inventing new cuss words
Old Group 27 as starting in existing box
Option 3
Drink heavily and don't worry because candles still
work
