Dividing a heavily used domestic battery bank into two is not a good idea. You will find that you are subjecting each bank to greater discharge levels and this is a major contributor to battery life cycles. Finding yourself offshore with a discharged domestic bank is nonsense really,because on board you are monitoring the bank continuously and will recharge where appropriate. There is no redundancy.
