I live in coastal NC where there are nice local places to go for a day or a night or 2. I came across an opportunity to pick up a 19’ Cat
Boat complete with a slip. The
electrical system is basic but needs some upgrading. Everything will be portable and operate off of a 100amp LifePo
battery. There is a 8hp Yamaha with a 2.5 amh
generator. There is a switch panel. I am going to change out the
anchor,
navigation, and 2
interior lights to LED. I plan to use a 10amp
solar panel (that will be put below when sailing) to keep the
battery charged. There is a cigarette lighter
plug down below for
charging the items that can be charged DC to DC (portable speaker,
cell phone,
iPad, etc). However my
VHF needs AC to charge. So I’m thinking about getting a small
Inverter. I would like to use my 100W soldering iron to cut lines and a heat gun (1500w) for heat shrink wraps around
electrical connections on occasion. There is no
electrical power nearby.
My questions are as follows:
1) What size wire should I use for the LED items?
2) Is 100 amp enough?
3) What is the best size
inverter to get? I tried a 1200w attached directly to a regular battery with no success.
4). Anything else I should consider?
