The Zeus allows you to program (among other things) the field duty % based on
RPM, so for instance, with a small
engine and large
alternator, you may not want maximum field (taking horsepower away from propulsion) while maneuvering at 1,000 or 1,500
rpm, so you can dial it back to say 50%.
But, if you are at
anchor and want to charge your bank, you can apply full field because you don't need
propulsion.
Generator mode will override the rpm curve and force full field (until you touch the throttle). You can do this with the App or with a switch wired to the input. Alternatively, you can wire a switch to force to float, etc.
The outputs are just for warning lights, such as high temp.
I have been using the Zeus for a year and love it. Works very well and it's easy to customize settings "on the fly" with the app. I typically don't need all the
Alternator power that I have available, so my basic setting limits the field across the range and also uses a very low "high temp" limit, so my alt chugs along at 180f most of the time. But, if I need a quick charge I can increase the duty and temp limit and increase my charge rate.
I highly recommend The Yachtrigger for sales, installation and
service. They are knowledgeable AND responsive both before AND after the
sale. Pretty rare combination these days. No affiliation, just a happy customer.
