Alternator Output?
What's the normal/best way to test the maximum output of my
alternator
? I do have a cable clamp type amp meter. Should I just run down the
batteries
and test the amps when
charging
? Seems a silly question, but I know there are sometimes set methods.

Re: Alternator Output?
You can connect the field straight to 12V for a short time to measure output with your clamp meter.
Otherwise, run the
batteries
down low.

Re: Alternator Output?
But a load on the batteries larger The size of
alternator
. Like
inverter
+
heater
Ie with 100a alt put a 150a load on
battery
. Should get 100 clamped on alt and -50 from
battery
Rev up
engine
. You won't get Max at idle

Re: Alternator Output?
Some internal regulated alternators have a test hole, used to go "full field" to test output. Need to
google
your brand.
Good luck
