Good evening all.
I have recently completed installing a
Balmar 6-Series 70Amp
alternator, MC612 onto the
Yanmar 3YM30 on my Hanse 370 located in Plymouth, UK.
Doing some final install today and testing I have encountered an issue where the external
regulator does not appear to throttle back the
alternator.
- What ever the field
current is the alternator is still outputting 55-65 Amps
- New
Balmar Temp
sensor is connected and functioning correctly (the MC612 reads the correct temp and goes into
alarm condition, verified against a 2nd temp
sensor feeding into the
Victron Cerbo)
- I have been measuring the voltage of the field
current from the MC612, this has been reducing as appropriate. With Amp manger down to 20%, Field voltage was around 4V but still alternator current output was up at 60Amps!
- With the
engine shut down the Field voltage still remains at 3V, is this normal? I couldn't
work out where this is coming from.
- "Small
engine mode" switch did nothing to output amps.
While the increase in
power from the old alternator is great I'm very concerned it's not throttling back and is going to over heat, and also fry some
batteries.
Any
advice or further testing most welcome.
VMT
