Adding another large cable

I have the usual 6 golf cart batteries and a starting battery for a 12v system. All connecting positions on the 6 volt batteries are taken and no threads on the studs are left for adding a good size welding cable lug connector. What are people doing to expand for more room? Are you taking some copper plate and making an expansion with a longer stud? I don't see any parts for sale anywhere except a fuse block that could be used without the fuse. Thanks

If I read this correctly, the short answer is that you are doing it wrong. It reads like you are connecting new loads to the batteries by attaching the new wire to whatever post has any space available. This is very poor practice, as you are likely to charge and discharge each battery differently, shortening their life. It also would make it impossible to put in a battery monitor. The correct way is to have ONE positive wire and ONE negative wire to the battery bank, leading to a bussbar (such as https://www.westmarine.com/buy/blue-...91?recordNum=1) where all loads are attached (with appropriate fuses on the positive side). A battery monitor could then be placed in the single negative wire.

There are lots of articles and tutorials on this subject, See for example https://pysystems.ca/ https://marinehowto.com/, and https://boathowto.com/

Thank you for the West Marine link. The backs of the battery switches look a big mess. Too many cables piled on top of each other. For now, I need to parallel in a lithium battery for a hybrid system, and an inverter. Each will be fused. Both are large cable lugs so wanted a little room for them. But yes, all of it needs to be sorted out cleanly and safely. It is a new boat to me and I am in the process of sorting it all out and fixing/changing what the previous owner did. I did find a fused battery terminal that gives more room than the post on a golf cart battery, but won't use it.

Thanks.
