If I read this correctly, the short answer is that you are doing it wrong. It reads like you are connecting new loads to the batteries by attaching the new wire to whatever post has any space available. This is very poor practice, as you are likely to charge and discharge each
battery differently, shortening their life. It also would make it impossible to put in a battery
monitor. The correct way is to have ONE positive wire and ONE negative wire to the battery bank, leading to a bussbar (such as

fuses on the positive side). A battery
monitor could then be placed in the
single negative wire.
